Do I Really Need this Now?

In amongst everything else that is going on, needing to check on the rules for business from 1st January 2021, is not something that is high on your agenda, but it should be. With only 72 days to go (at the time of writing this blog) time is against us if we need to make significant changes to our businesses, whether you export to the EU, travel there on business, or source and store personal information in Europe.

In case you need clarification the EU is considered as the countries of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden. But there is also the European Economic Area which includes not only these countries but also Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, which allows them to trade and be part of the single market. The only oddity is Switzerland, which does not belong to either the EU or the EEA but is part of the single market.

Now that this is out of the way, the most common interaction from our customer base is likely to be the use and storing of Personal Data from an EU / EEA country, such as if someone from, for example, France, places an order for a product or service from your company. You may need their Credit Card details and home address which potentially could be stored. If this is the case, then we suggest visiting the Transition Page on the Government website which has a simple to follow online questionnaire that will, at least, give you a place to start from.

Perhaps you have a website with a .eu domain name – then again, we suggest running through the online questionnaire, which can be found at
